The Grain Farmers' Access to Warehouse Inventory Credit in Tanzania (WIC) Project is one of the projects established to increase incomes of smallholder grain farmers in Tanzania by increasing the average price paid to the farmers for their crop. This will be achieved by strengthening the farmers' position in marketing their crop with the help of a warehouse inventory credit system based on warehouse receipts.
The use of warehouse receipts allows farmers to deposit their crop in a warehouse and meet their need for cash by borrowing from a bank. This avoids selling their produce at low price. Farmers can wait until after the end of the harvest season, when the prices rise
